The Solidarity Economy Association has joined a major collaboration of 30 national, regional and local organisations to deliver an emergency summit to ensure Brexit delivers a positive outcome for UK society.
CTRL-Shift, which takes place in Wigan on 27-29 March 2018, will be an historic event, marking the first time these diverse organisations collaborate on a joint action plan for radical, positive social change in light of the Brexit referendum result.
SEA joins national apex bodies like Permaculture Association, Co-operatives UK, and Transition Network, alongside organisations spanning the social justice, open democracy, food sovereignty and environmental movements, including the RSA, Schumacher College, Shared Assets, The People’s Food Policy, UnLtd, Real Farming Trust, and Stir to Action. Clara dos Santos, co-director and member of the Solidarity Economy Association, said: “Brexit – whether you agree with it or not – heralds a time of unprecedented, rapid change and opportunity. Its timing, amongst unfolding and concurrent crises of the environment, social justice and the economy, mean that we are facing stark realities and starker choices if we are to ride the various storms and emerge as a more resilient, more sustainable society, culture and land base.
“We know an alternative, more positive, future already exists but those involved in creating it are not yet sufficiently connected, and our policies and practices not widely adopted. The Solidarity Economy Movement is fundamentally a movement of movements, and this kind of cross-sector collaboration is desperately needed to help create a truly democratic, fairer and more ecologically sustainable economy for everyone.”
